bad poetry

He had been selfishly cruel,
his affection bound up with
false humility and concern,
deep distrust, guilty secrecy.

She gave, he took and it was
good for bad love poems
but not for real life.
And when it was done,

she felt like a horrible cliche
with a sympathetic ear
for the herky jerky rhythms of
sad country music lyrics.
