Cold Sunshine

She woke up and craved the sunshine, the dazzling bright light of bitter midwinter glinting off the icy snow. So she braved the frigid temperatures and put on layers and layers of clothes : enough that she resembled the Michelin tire man : and went for a long walk with the dog. She closed her eyes along certain lonely stretches and imagined the day’s dull warmth seeping into her skin through all her clothes. She walked until everything went numb except her mind and heart, which now teemed with the abundance of sunlight.
