Tough girl

She curses a lot.
She furrows her brow.
She raises her voice and
waves her arms.

But then someone comes in
and kicks her in the teeth
with a hand on her thigh
During a meeting, no less

In the mirror that night,
She practices her scowls
Says some curse words out loud
And thinks about taking up karate.

Then she weeps for her
Swearing, frowning, gesticulating self
And for the other self inside of her too.

And she writes down her speech
Of why and how not to touch her again.
It does not involve a karate chop,
Though that would be nice.
